Background

Since its construction in 1971, Carillon Court Shopping Centre has become the key town centre retail destination in Loughborough. The 340 space car park included a combination of rooftop and internal decks – some critically over occupied retail premises, together with connecting ramps. Jones Lang LaSalle were asked to review ongoing problems of water ingress and find a solution that would aesthetically enhance the aging car park

The Challenge

The existing mastic asphalt surfacing was degraded and at the end of its working life. The challenge was to find a waterproofing and surfacing solution which would improve and enhance the parking environment, provide long-term protection to the structure, whilst limiting disruption to customers and retailers during installation.

The Solution

Following an extensive review the decision was taken to adopt a Triflex Creative Car Park concept which offers superior protection and durability coupled with creativity in design. The proven track record of Triflex for overlaying existing mastic asphalt substrates was taken into account, with more than one-million square metres of asphalt overlaid in the UK in the last 20 years.

The Benefits

The Triflex overlay significantly reduced cost, risk and disruption to shoppers and retailers associated with asphalt removal.
“I would like to tell you how delighted we are with the car park refurbishment undertaken at Carillon Court. The waterproofing and surfacing of the car park was carried out quickly and efficiently, with little or no disruption to customers and retailers. I am extremely pleased with the quality of the finished product” Baljit Kooner – Centre Manager
