A former LRWA Specialist Applied-Skills Programme (SAP) trainee, who was named Student of the Year 2018, has been shortlisted in the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Apprenticeship Awards 2019.

Jordan Page, who’s 19 from Shrewsbury, Shropshire, is in the running to be crowned the ‘SAP Learner of the Year’, which acknowledges the accomplishments of those working in specialised trades within the industry. It also recognises the enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and dedication throughout the roofing apprenticeship training.

Jordan completed his SAP training in liquids in 2018 and works for A R Page Roofing Ltd.
The SAP is the only accredited training course in the UK that covers all the major liquid chemistries and is aimed at new entrants to the industry. Completing the SAP leads to an NVQ Level 2 qualification that also enables roofers to apply for a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) blue ‘Skilled Worker’ card – allowing access to site on new build and refurbishment projects.

Jordan, who was crowned Student of the Year at the LRWA’s Awards Gala in 2018, is up against two other finalists in the category at the prestigious CITB event on 7 November at the Merchant Taylor’s Hall in London.

The winners will be presented with their awards at a ceremony hosted by broadcaster and property entrepreneur, Sarah Beeny, best known for presenting UK shows such as Property Ladder, Streets Ahead and Britain’s Best Homes.

Sarah Spink, CEO of the LRWA, said: “Jordan showed a passion for roofing as soon as he left school. Joining his family’s roofing business aged just 16, he was determined to develop his skills from the outset.

“He set about researching training options, which led to him join the LRWA’s Specialist Applied-skills Programme (SAP), and we couldn’t be more proud that he has been shortlisted for such a prestigious, national award. We wish him the very best of luck.”

Deborah Madden, CITB spokesperson, said: “The CITB Apprenticeship Awards celebrate the successes of apprentices and employers across the UK for their commitment and dedication to construction. We are proud of our apprentices and the employers who give them the opportunity to work and learn whilst building their career in construction. We look forward to celebrating this day with them, congratulations to all the finalists.”
