Success for Liquids at the Roofing Awards 2017

Blog by Sarah Spink – CEO of LRWA

“Huge congratulations to LRWA manufacturer member, Kemper System Ltd, for being recognised in the Liquid Applied Roofing and Waterproofing category at the annual Roofing Awards on Friday (19 May). Contractors, Mitie Tilley Roofing, was awarded best project for Gatwick Airport in West Sussex, which specified Kemper’s liquid waterproofing system. Congratulations also to Radmat (with Prater) for winning in the Mastic Asphalt / Hot Melt category for its work on Fitzroy Place.

“It was fantastic to see more than 700 people attend this year’s event, which was organised and hosted by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC). The awards, which recognised outstanding workmanship and technical excellence across the roofing industry, were held at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge, London and presented by BBC Breakfast’s Steph McGovern.
“Steph offered some interesting insight into her thoughts on the construction industry as we continue to fight against the skills shortage in our sector. Saying how some of the “…most successful and richest people…” she knows work in construction, and how as an industry, we are often “undervalued”.

“It was refreshing to hear someone outside of the industry agree with something we continuously battle against in the roofing sector as we work to maintain the highest standards in liquid roofing, and help to grow and nurture the workforce of tomorrow. Whilst agreeing of course, we are some of the hardest working people in construction!

“It was also fantastic to see the diversity and skills used within projects that were shortlisted which included green roofs, inverted and flat roofs. One of our contractor members, Volker Laser, was also shortlisted in the liquid category for work on Priority Schools.

“As an association, we have supported the NFRC Roofing Awards for a decade, and it was a pleasure to be involved in developing and showcasing the best in roofing as it celebrates its 125-year anniversary.

“Thanks to continued support by the LRWA and other industry sponsors, the Roofing Awards has become the highlight of the roofing industry calendar. Award entries were reported to have increased and new categories were introduced this year – including environmental, lead roofing and hard metal roofing categories and for the first time, the judges award for ‘Roof of the Year’.

“The awards are a brilliant platform to showcase the versatility and diversity of liquids in outstanding projects delivered for clients and end users – roll on next year!”
