LRWA’s Charity Team Challenge Returns

The Liquid Roofing and Waterproofing Association (LRWA)’s Charity Team Challenge is set to return in 2022, as the association continues its commitment to raise money for worthwhile causes.

Now in its third year, the Challenge invites teams of up to ten people to walk, run, cycle or swim as far as they can in 30 minutes to achieve the highest number of kilometres and raise money for the LRWA’s chosen charity, LandAid.

Sarah Spink, CEO of the LRWA said: “As an association, we’ve actively been raising money for charity since 2016, and have donated almost £20K in the last six years to a variety of different causes including Mind, Find a Better Way and LandAid.

“We are really pleased to be hosting the Charity Team Challenge again this year to build on this fundraising. The event started back in 2019, when we recognised an opportunity to harness the competitive nature of our members and raise money for a chosen cause all whilst increasing awareness of our sector.”

The Challenge will take place from 12 September 2022 until 30 September 2022, when winning teams will be awarded their gold, silver and bronze prizes based on the highest total kilometres achieved during this time.

Bonus kilometres are available for the photo of the activity in the most original place (5km), and for individuals who post photos and videos on their personal LinkedIn pages using the hashtag #LRWAcharityteamchallenge. The team with the highest amount of fundraising for LandAid will also receive 10 bonus kilometres.

The event was originally set up as the ‘LRWA Charity Dragon Boat Regatta’ which took place on a lake in Marlow in 2019. Although it was a great success, the face-to-face event had to be cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but was quickly converted to a virtual team challenge and is now a permanent fixture in the association’s calendar.

Sarah continued: “The virtual event has proved even more successful during the last two years in raising funds for worthwhile causes, as well as providing an enormous amount of engagement on social media. In 2021, social media posts from people who participated in the Challenge were seen by half a million LinkedIn users in just three weeks.

“We also have a shiny new trophy which has enough space for 10 years’ worth of winners – showing our long-term commitment to the event.”

The LRWA’s chosen charity, LandAid, invests more £2 million every year in projects working to end youth homelessness. The charity is focussed on providing safe, secure and affordable accommodation for young people across the UK who are experiencing homelessness.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up for the event so that the fundraising can begin.

The event is free to enter and all participating teams must be registered by 9 September 2022 to undertake the Challenge. Each team must have a captain who will select the 10 longest distances achieved during the challenge, and submit these on a spreadsheet to the LRWA with evidence from Strava by Friday 7 October 2022.

Winners will be announced virtually on 12 October 2022 via video link, and medals will be given to all members of the team who win first, second and third.
