New for 2026, we are inviting LRWA members to submit nominations for the ‘Trainer of the Year Award’.

The winner of this accolade will be announced at the annual  Awards & Gala Dinner in Liverpool on 25 March 2026.

Open to individuals working within an LRWA member company, this award celebrates those who are actively involved in training individuals within the liquid roofing and waterproofing sector. It will recognise outstanding trainers who are making a real difference in skills development and professional excellence across the sector.

Entries will be assessed against the following key criteria:

  1. Technical excellence and industry knowledge
  2. Training delivery and engagement
  3. Commitment to safety and quality
  4. Innovation in training
  5. Mentorship and leadership
  6. Contribution to the industry

Judging Process

Nominations must be submitted online, by a colleague or manager, accompanied by supporting evidence.
Shortlisted entrants will be invited to an interview, when they must demonstrate how they meet the key selection criteria.

Closing date for nominations: Friday 5th December 2025

  1. Technical excellence and industry knowledge  – The trainer should demonstrate exceptional technical expertise in their product type, application methods, and safety standards, while remaining up-to-date with the latest innovations, standards (e.g. BS 6229), and best practices.
  2. Training delivery and engagement – The trainer should deliver engaging, inclusive, and effective theory and practical sessions, adapting teaching styles to suit different learning levels. They should show clear communication, hands-on demonstration skills, and effective approaches to assessment.
  3. Commitment to safety and quality – The trainer should consistently emphasise safe working practices, correct PPE use, and adherence to site standards, whilst fostering a culture of responsibility within the training environment.
  4. Innovation in training – Showcasing evidence of development and continuous improvement of the organisation’s training programmes and assessment processes, and develops or adopts innovative training methods, tools, and materials – such as digital platforms and mock-up rigs.
  5. Mentorship and leadership – Acts as a mentor and role model for trainees and peers, providing guidance, encouragement, and career support beyond formal training.
  6. Contribution to the industry – Actively supports industry standards, training programmes, such as the Specialist Applied-skills Programme, and professional development initiatives through engagement with professional bodies (e.g. CIOB), while promoting careers in liquid roofing and waterproofing.

 Nominations should include;

  • Full details of the nominator and their reasons for putting this individual forward for the award
  • The LRWA member company the nominee works for
  • A summary of the nominee’s role within training, including the length of time in the role
  • Details of the specialist area in which they train. For example, liquid-applied membranes, insulation, rooflights, etc, and how they support the liquid roofing and waterproofing industry
  • Testimonials or feedback from employers and trainees
  • Evidence of involvement in industry working groups, panels, or standard-setting activities
