Specialist Applied Skills Programme (SAP)

The fully grant aided SAP course has been developed for future roofing applicators of any age. It covers all aspects of roofing with a particular emphasis on liquid applications and also includes relevant health and safety issues, basic first aid, scaffold safety and asbestos awareness. On completion of the Specialist Applied Skills Programme, each candidate will achieve an NVQ Level 2 qualification, which will enable them to obtain a blue CSCS card.

The LRWA SAP is an 18 month training programme that leads to a Level 2 Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Liquid Applied Roofing. The course consists of 12 months classroom and practical training in all major liquid disciplines, followed by a 6 month period of on-site assessment. Funding is available for CITB registered companies.

Module 6 – Glass reinforced Polyester and Resilient Polyesters – Theory and Practical
Module 7 – Introduction to liquid applied membranes, chemistry, control and coverage rates
Module 8 -Poly Methyl Methacrylates – Theory and Practical
Module 9 – Vehicles, Asbestos awareness, waste management, health & hygiene, electricity at work,
Module 10 – Details, terminations, night seals, faults & rectification
Module 11 – Tapered insulation systems, why, when, how? Practical
Module 12 -Roofing felt products & their application
Module 13 – Hot rubberised bitumen, theory & practical
Module 14 – Insulation calculations, condensation risk & vapour control
Module 15 – Balconies, Podiums, & Inverted roof systems, theory & practical
Module 16 -Environment & sustainability
Module 17 – Green Roofs
Module 18 -Project planning & preparation including site set up
Module 19 – Rooflights, reasons for, maintenance & waterproofing, theory & practical

Where does SAP training take place?
We currently have five approved training centres in Tyne & Wear, West Midlands, Hertfordshire, Suffolk and South Wales. Trainees come from across Great Britain and therefore we select the centre that is most convenient for the majority of trainees.
