There are many types of liquid applied membranes and the majority of them are covered by European Assessment Document for Liquid Applied Roof Waterproofing Kits. There are some, however, that are not covered by the EAD, but this should not detract from their use as long as they have a valid Agrement Certificate for their intended use.

It is recommended that only systems holding current third-party accreditation such as agrement (such as BBA or BDA) or ETA certificates should be specified.

An overview of the UK building regulations and British standards that apply to flat roofing & balconies,

Key standards that are used within flat roofing and balconies include BS 6229, BS 5250 and BS 8579.  LRWA represent members on the BSI committees that have responsibility for these standards.

Our members work together to ensure liquids are represented within industry standards.

We provide technical guidance on liquid applied membranes through the LRWA Design Guide for Specifiers and Guidance Notes.

Through partnerships with other roofing trade associations, the LRWA is working hard to move the flat roofing forwards on issues that impact the wider industry such as fire safety post Grenfell.  There are also some key technical downloads that have been produced by LRWA, NFRC and SPRA.  All technical guidance is free to download.

LRWA are members of the Construction Products Association (CPA) and Build UK who work on behalf of the wider industry representing manufacturers and contractors as a collective at government level.  Both bodies collaborate with key stakeholders and produce guidance on how to comply with the ever changing regulations.

Sustainability is one of the greatest challenges facing the construction industry. Although not a new item on the agenda, the focus on this wide-ranging topic is intensifying against a backdrop of ever-changing requirements and pressures.

Sustainability is broad term, spanning environmental, social and economic factors. But it is the environmental pillar which is increasingly under the spotlight. Awareness among the public and construction clients is growing rapidly, driven by major global environmental issues and the impact of climate change.

The construction industry is becoming increasingly committed to maintaining and developing the skills and knowledge of employees, whether it’s keeping them up to date with changes, improving current skillsets or learning new skills.

CPD plays a vital part in the construction industry as it allows professionals to keep up with the ever-changing acceleration of technology, regulations, procurement practices, specialisms and integration of the supply chain.
