As a ‘not-for-profit’ trade association, we like to show our support for various charitable causes and select a different charity each year.
2021/2022 Charity – LandAid
We are pleased to announce that LandAid have been chosen to be our industry sector’s charity for 2021.
The problem
Every year, there are 103,000 young people across the UK who do not have a safe place to call home.
Forced to live in overcrowded hostels, sofa surf, or worse still, sleep on the streets, these young people need our help, and they need it now.
A solution
LandAid brings together fantastic companies and individuals from across
the property and construction industries to end youth homelessness.
LandAid change lives by providing safe and supportive housing for vulnerable young people who need it most.
LandAid invests over £2 million every year in projects working to end youth homelessness.
Working in communities across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales with our invaluable charity partners, LandAid is focussed on providing safe, secure and affordable accommodation for young people across the UK who are experiencing homelessness.
LRWA and its members will be raising funds for this important cause through donations at the annual LRWA Awards & Gala and the LRWA Charity Dragon Team challenge.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the event so that the fundraising can begin!
Thank you for your support.
We are pleased to announce that Mates in Mind have been chosen by members to be our industry sector’s charity for 2019/20.
Figures released by the Office of National Statistics show that the incidence of suicide among roofers, tilers and slaters is 2.7 times higher than the national average. Shockingly, between 2011 and 2015, ONS data shows 2,757 people working in the roofing industry committed suicide – compared to 217 fatal injuries in the same period – 97 of which were caused by a fall from height.
Tackling this issue will need to form part of a long-term campaign across the industry, but as an association we have also committed to supporting a mental health charity throughout 2019/20.
LRWA will be raising funds for this important cause through donations at the annual LRWA Awards & Gala and LRWA Charity Dragon Boat Regatta.
Thank you for your support.

In 2018/19 we chose to donate to Mind, who provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

In 2017 we chose to donate to Find A Better Way, a charity founded in 2011 by England and Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton. While visiting a minefield in Cambodia, Sir Bobby saw first-hand the humanitarian damage which landmines cause in war torn areas both past and present.
The visit moved him to set up Find A Better Way as he felt that, with modern technological advances, there had to be a more efficient way of negating the effects of mines and improving safety and security for local communities whose lives are blighted by them.

Cliff Weston, Chairman of the LRWA presents Sir Bobby Charlton with a cheque for £2,500, along with the winner of the charity auction at the LRWA Awards and Gala Dinner 2017, David Broom of Moy Materials, the proud owner of a Manchester United shirt signed by Sir Bobby.
The video below is both powerful and moving and explains why this was such a worthy cause.
