The LRWA is pleased to welcome Steve Marr, COO of the Code for Construction Product Information (CCPI), for a dedicated online session on CCPI words and phrases that construction marketing and communications should avoid using.
This session is open to all LRWA members, particularly those in marketing and technical roles who write, edit or approve construction product information, or who have any part to play in that process.
Members raised the topic directly, and this session is the first step towards developing a dedicated, sector-specific ‘Words and Phrases to Avoid Using’ document for the liquid roofing and waterproofing sector, building on the CCPI’s existing guidance.
- Using the Existing Guidance as a Foundation
Word choice in construction marketing has come under increasing scrutiny since the Grenfell Tower fire, with misleading product claims identified as a contributing factor. In response, the CCPI published guidance on language that could mislead specifiers, contractors and building owners.
The CCPI’s list is a useful starting point, but it is not exhaustive or definitive. Different sectors and products have their own terminology and considerations. LRWA is now starting a project to develop a sector-specific list for liquid roofing and waterproofing—and we want your input. Join our webinar to discuss potentially misleading or ambiguous wording and help shape a practical guide for the sector.
Before the session, we encourage attendees to read the CCPI’s Words and Phrases to Avoid Using guidance and come prepared with any questions, examples or discussion points from your own work. This is your opportunity to contribute to the project and put your questions directly to the CCPI.
